Aruma marks a new chapter in his musical career by launching a new single titled Pura-Pura Hidup Lagi.
This latest work is the opening ammunition of a series of upcoming mini album or extended play (EP) project which summarizes the emotional phases of a person when facing wounds and losses.
Through "Pura-Pura Hidup Lagi", Aruma portrays the bitter reality of someone who struggles to continue the dynamics of life, even though his heart condition has not fully recovered.
Aruma said the hardest time of a separation or loss is not when the momentum happens, but when life continues without paying attention to the pain that remains inside.
"Pura-Pura Hidup Lagi" tells the story of the days after loss. According to me, the hardest thing is not when it's all over, but when the world continues to go on as usual, while inside of us it feels like something has stopped," said Aruma in his statement, Wednesday, July 22.
He added that the 'pretending' attitude in this song is not a form of dishonesty, but a self-defense mechanism to survive until they are able to embrace acceptance.
The upcoming EP series is projected to take listeners down the emotional ladder, from the phase of rejection, overthinking, to finally finding peace with oneself.
"If this series of works is likened to a journey, 'Pura-Pura Hidup Lagi' is the first step. I want to invite listeners to follow the process slowly, until finally realizing that what changes is not our condition, but the way we see ourselves," he said.
Interestingly, this song was born from the hands of Pika Iskandar, different from some tracks in the upcoming EP that Aruma wrote himself. However, the AMI-winning singer felt that he had a very strong inner attachment since he first listened to the demo recording.
"The biggest challenge is to make a song that I didn't write sound like my own story. I tried to connect every lyric with my life experience. I even changed two lines of lyrics at the end of the reff and explored the melody to make it feel more 'Aruma'," he said.
Aruma hopes that this opening song can be a remedy and a loyal friend for listeners who are struggling to heal inner wounds.
"I don't expect this song to immediately relieve someone's pain. But if this song can make them feel that someone has experienced something similar, it already means a lot. Because sometimes what we need most is not a solution, but companionship," concluded Aruma.
