JAKARTA - The establishment of the Indonesia Desk at the Cambodian Police aims to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Indonesia and Cambodia in efforts to tackle online scam eradication, said officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The formation of a Joint Task Force (Joint Task Force) between Indonesia and Cambodia aimed at eradicating online fraud syndicates, is one of the results of the working visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arief Havas Oegroseno to Cambodia on July 27-29.
Spokesperson II of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, explained that in addition to efforts to eradicate online scams, the desk is also for "handling for Indonesian citizens who are involved or affected," he explained in a press statement in Jakarta, Thursday (13/8).
"The establishment of the desk is expected to accelerate the handling of online fraud cases involving Indonesian citizens in Cambodia," said Nabyl.

Director of Indonesian Migrant Protection at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, revealed that from January to August, 12,583 Indonesian citizens had reported to the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh to request facilitation for their return to their homeland.
The Indonesian citizens are former online fraud syndicates in Cambodia who came out of online scam centers, along with the firm action against online scam centers. In addition to Indonesian citizens, workers at the scam center also come from various countries, such as South Korea to China.
"Last August, 8,124 people returned to their homeland. And currently, there are 991 Indonesian people in shelters. Seven Indonesian citizens were detained by immigration in Phnom Penh, then 680 people were detained by immigration at the old airport in the cargo terminal, then 234 people in Bati, 24 people in Sihanoukville and 46 people in Siem Reap," explained Heni.
"Perhaps what needs to be anticipated is the change in the Cambodian Government's policy regarding the forgiveness of overstay fines," he said.
"The policy issued on June 16 and effective starting July 1 stipulates that the policy for pardoning fines for overstaying for Indonesian citizens is no longer given," said Heni.
"Maybe this is also our PR, cooperation to be able to negotiate with the Cambodian side," he said.
