Wife Attacked By Bear, Husband Helps With Empty Hands

SOLOK - A husband and wife couple (couple) resident of Tungku Duato Hamlet, Jorong Talaok, Nagari Sariak Alahan Tigo, Hiliran Gumanti District, Solok Regency, West Sumatra were attacked by a bear.

Wali Nagari Sariak Alahan, Tigo Baharudin confirmed that two of his residents were attacked by a bear when they were about to return from the field and were shocked when they met a bear on the road.

"The attack on the bear resulted in his wife suffering injuries to her body," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 4.

He told the chronology of the couple being attacked by a bear. Starting on the way home from the field, suddenly meeting a bear and his wife being immediately attacked by a bear.

"At that time, they were in only two of them and there were no other residents," he said.

Seeing his wife being attacked, her husband, Ismail (43) immediately tried to help his wife Ermayuni (41) so that she could escape the bear attack.

"Husbands tried to intervene. Their resistance lasted for about 20 minutes. The husband helped with his bare hands, without any help," he said.

After a long time fighting the bear attack, it was then that the bear was finally able to stop attacking and escape.

They don't use any tools or wood. Bears can be dispersed from their wives. We don't know what caused this bear to suddenly attack," he said.

The wild bear is quite large in the size of an adult human.

"According to the victim's report, the bear is mature and large," he said.

As a result of this incident, his wife suffered lacerations to the back of her legs to her knees and was taken to the Talang Babungo Health Center for further treatment.

"We have also reported this incident to the Solok Regency government, to report this incident to the West Sumatra BKSDA. But until now there have been no related officers to the location," he said.

He appealed to residents to be careful when leaving the house, especially in a situation that is not yet conducive at this time.

"We have conveyed to the head of the jorong to urge the residents to be more vigilant when going to the fields. Moreover, in the current situation, we are waiting for the BKSDA to come," said Tigo Baharudin.

Responding to this, the Head of the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Ardi Andono, appealed to residents not to panic and immediately stay away from the presence of bears. He estimates that at a certain time the bear could prey on residents' livestock.

"For this reason, place something that smells sharp, such as pepper, chili, and campaign. Because the bear's nose is sensitive and will avoid a sharp odor," he said.

"Unlike other animals, bears use sounds and even carry out attacks," said Ardi Andono.
