BPS Reveals Poverty Line In NTT Increases By IDR 10.06 Percent

NTT - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said the poverty line in NTT increased by IDR 10.06 percent as of March 2023.

Head of BPS for NTT Province Matamira B Kale said the NTT poverty line rose by Rp507,203/capita/month from Rp460,823 in March 2022.

"The poverty rate in NTT increased by 10.06 percent with the largest role of food commodities," he said in Kupang, NTT, Monday, July 17, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that the role of food commodities in the poverty line in NTT contributed 76.8 percent or much larger than non-food commodities of 23.2 percent, including housing, clothing, education, health, and other basic necessities.

In March 2023, the average household in NTT had five to six members. Thus, he said, the average poverty line per household reached IDR 2,992,498 per poor household.

He explained, when compared to national conditions, the poverty line in NTT is higher than the national level of Rp2,592,657.

When compared to other provinces, he said, it also varies as compared to West Sulawesi Province with a poverty line of IDR 2,338,918, then NTT is still higher.

Meanwhile, compared to Bangka Belitung Province which has a poverty line of IDR 4,633,281, the NTT poverty line is still lower.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with various elements in NTT to maintain poverty line conditions with a focus on food commodities.

"So we have to pay more attention to maintaining feed commodity prices because of their large share of the poverty line," he said.
