JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo opened his voice about the moment he had coffee with Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) Anwar Usman the day before the decision on the election lawsuit case related to an open proportional system.
Jokowi emphasized that his meeting with Anwar Usman after the opening of the Jakarta Fair 2023 at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran last night did not discuss until he intervened in the election system decision.
"Ngopi (with Anwar Usman)? Many people. Business, never mixed up like that. Never," said Jokowi at Menteng Pulo Market, South Jakarta, Thursday, June 15.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta also submitted whatever the decision of the Constitutional Court judge regarding the proportional election system lawsuit is open or closed.
"It's up to the law, it's up to the decision. Wong, it hasn't been announced yet," he said.
According to Jokowi, the two electoral systems have their respective positive and negative sides. "Every party, if asked, can be different because both of them have advantages, there are weaknesses. The closed ones have advantages. There are also advantages, there are weaknesses," he added.
Last night, Jokowi took the time to have coffee with a number of officials after the opening of the Jakarta Fair 2023 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
After inaugurating the opening of the Jakarta Fair, Jokowi toured the food, beverage, and goods booths in the Pekan Raya Jakarta area. The former governor of DKI also greeted the residents who surrounded him.
Jokowi then approached one of the coffee product booths. He took the time to coffee while sitting at the table with Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman and his wife who were also Jokowi's younger siblings, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and TNI Commander Admiral Yudo Margono.
Today, Jokowi is hearing a judicial review of Article 168 paragraph (2) of the Election Law related to an open proportional system registered with case registration number 114/PUU-XX/2022 on November 14, 2022.
The six applicants are Demas Brian Wicaksono (Permohon I), Yuwono Pintadi (Pemohon II), Fahrurrozi (Pemohon III), Ibnu Rachman Jaya (Permohon IV), Riyanto (Pemohon V), and Nono Marijono (Pemohon VI).
Eight of the nine political party factions in the DPR RI also stated that they rejected the closed proportional electoral system, namely the Golkar, Gerindra, Democrat, NasDem, PAN, PKB, PPP, and PKS factions. Only one faction wants a closed proportional election system, namely the PDI-P.
