BMKG Says Aceh Is Starting To Feel The Influence Of El Nino, The Highest Hot Weather Is 34.5 Degrees

ACEH - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that Aceh Province has begun to feel the influence of the El Nino phenomenon that has occurred since last March. "El Nino in Aceh in March had an influence, but a little," said Head of BMKG Class I Meteorological Station Sultan Iskandar Muda (SIM) Nasrol Adil in Banda Aceh, Antara, Thursday, May 4. Aceh is currently in the transition period to the dry season. The heat temperature in Aceh in this period is at its highest at 34.5 degrees Celsius. "This means that it is hot enough, so this will generate evaporation, but we will not linger too long with this hot heat because our condition is surrounded by the ocean," he said. He explained that this year Indonesia faced El Nino with a longer dry period, but that doesn't mean there is no rain at all. When in recent days people have felt the scorching heat, he said, this was because the Aceh area was surrounded by oceans with long coastlines, resulting in heating of sea level temperatures. This also makes the hot temperature in Aceh not so hot and shorter. This condition is different from dry areas without being surrounded by sea, one of which is in India. "Unlike what happened in Spain and India, some people have died from the heat waves that hit. Because the position of mainland India is very dry, the temperature is hot up to 55 degrees Celsius," he said. During El Nino's influence, said Nasrol, there were several areas in Aceh without rain for more than 20 days, causing drought in residents' wells and other areas.

"That is in the eastern, northern, southeast, and northern parts of the mountains, but in the southern western region of Aceh, they have the potential to still have sufficient rainfall," he said.
