Waste In Pontianak Reach 400 Tons Per Day, Mayor Says It Tends To Increase On Weekends

KALBAR - The production of organic and inorganic waste including from households in Pontianak City reaches 400 tons per day. In fact, it is predicted to continue to increase with the increase in population in the area.

Pontianak Mayor (Walkot), Edi Rusdi Kamtono said the potential for waste to increase at a number of points in Pontianak occurs on weekends or weekends.

"Waste production here averages almost 400 tons per day. In fact, in the Bicycle Park area where the commemoration of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) is being held, waste production every day, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, can reach two containers of garbage. This shows waste production in this city is increasing every day along with the increase in population," said Edi in Pontianak, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan), Sunday, March 5, quoted by Antara.

He explained, Pontianak City this year received an award in the form of an Adipura certificate from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). The award is an appreciation for environmental management and green open spaces.

Regarding waste management, Pontianak City already has organic and inorganic waste management. There are processing tools created by humans as well as those processed naturally.

"Dealing with this waste can not only be done by the Pontianak City Government, but requires the involvement of the active role of the community who care about keeping our beloved city clean," he said.

Waste management also starts early, especially in the school environment. Therefore, Edi asked the Pontianak City Education and Culture Office to collaborate with schools to set up a mini waste bank so that children are used to collecting and sorting waste to be disposed of in its place and recycled.

"The Environmental Service must also collaborate with environmental activist communities to synergize in campaigning for it," he said.
