JAKARTA - British Prime Minister Liz Truss is considering moving the British Embassy in Israel, from Tel Aviv to the Holy City of Jerusalem.

PM Truss raised the possibility of moving the embassy during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, reports The National News September 22.

The move would follow Donald Trump's decision, when he was president, to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, which sparked controversy around the world.

Previously, although Israel designated Jerusalem as its capital, Britain had long maintained its embassy in Tel Aviv.

A Downing Street spokesman said PM Truss informed PM Lapid "of her review of the current location of the British embassy in Israel".

Prime Minister Truss said she understood the "importance and sensitivity" of the embassy location.

While citing Haaretz, during the meeting PM Lapid reiterated the need to avoid further concessions in negotiations with Iran, stressing Israel hopes for a longer and tighter deal with Tehran, which will provide answers to all threats posed.
