Palembang Police: ETLE Camera Can Detect Faces Of Criminals

PALEMBANG - The Palembang Traffic Unit Police, South Sumatra said that the electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) traffic violation cameras in this city are effective in detecting the faces of criminals.

The head of the Palembang Traffic Unit Police, Commissioner Rendy S Aditama, said his party together with Pusinafis had several times taken advantage of the advantages of the ETLE camera to uncover criminal cases.

From this utilization, there have been several cases of crime where the perpetrators have been caught by the local police.

"It has been connected to Pusinafis to detect faces using ETLE. Two days ago, violations such as robbery could be traced, then one of the officials whose car was taken away someone was recorded. Thank God, less than 1x24, it was revealed who the culprit was", said Rendy after a coordination meeting with The Palembang City Government at the mayor's official residence was quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 18.

According to him, this is one of the advantages of the ETLE camera in Palembang besides monitoring traffic flow, taking action against driving violations, all of which are a form of service to the community.

The police and the Palembang city government plan to increase the number of ETLE cameras in the future.

In the early stages, there were as many as five to seven new ETLE camera units that were immediately installed, each with two sets of ETLE on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, Sukarami District, one unit on Demang Lebar Daun Street, Ilir Barat 1 Subdistrict, and one unit in the Ilir Barat 1 area. Nilakandi, Ilir Timur II District.

"Everything is done in stages, while that point will be followed up for other locations", he said.

He ensured that the ETLE camera would record all motor vehicle movement activities, similar to the nine sets of cameras that were installed earlier last year, making it easier to take action.

The monitoring is carried out by the traffic police, transportation services and other agencies every day for 24 hours, the coordination is centered at the Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC) of the South Sumatra Police.

"The number of personnel in the field can also be reduced by increasing the number of ETLE cameras installed and making traffic violations more efficient", he said.
