Surprised That Anti-Corruption Voices Are Policed, Rocky Gerung Uncovers The Difference Between Haris-Fatia's Criticism And Luhut's Big Data Claim

JAKARTA - Political observer Rocky Gerung assesses that there are significant differences regarding the criticisms conveyed by human rights activists Haris Azhar and Fatia Maulidiyanti with big data claims from the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

According to him, the criticisms conveyed by Haris and Fatia represent the voice of reform that raises the spirit of anti-corruption, collusion, and nepotism. The criticisms conveyed by both of them are based on research databases. The sources of his research are not hidden from the public.

"Haris Azhar and Fatia represent the voices of reform, anti-KKN, efforts to regenerate a clean Indonesia, which are carried out by Haris and Fatia through research", said Rocky, quoted from the Rocky Gerung Official YouTube channel, Monday, March 21.

Meanwhile, Luhut did something different. The Deputy Chair of the COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery Team (KPC-PEN) said there was big data of 110 million netizens who wanted the 2024 General Election (Election) to be postponed.

Luhut's controversial statement made a scene. However, until now the source of the big data has refused to be opened by Luhut as the claimant. Luhut refused to be transparent regarding the source of the data.

Of the two situations Rocky explained, he was surprised that Haris-Fatia was even reported to the police. Whereas what is conveyed is based on research with sources that are open to the public. Meanwhile, what Luhut said about the existence of 110 million netizens wanted the 2024 election to be postponed, just like that.

"This is the difference that Haris was reported for doing research, while Pak Luhut was free to lie about the big data, and didn't want to open the data, while Haris opened the data", said Rocky.

On that basis, Rocky assessed that there was an imbalance in the legal process when it came to state officials. "This is what we really want to assess, why is the law so there is a question regarding that power, immediately reacted quickly", he added.

Haris and Fatia have been named suspects in the alleged defamation case reported by Luhut. Both were questioned as suspects today.

According to VOI monitoring, Haris arrived at the Metro Jaya Police Special Criminal Directorate building at around 10.48 WIB, Monday, March 21.

Before undergoing the examination, Haris had time to give a statement. He considered the determination of the suspect to be political in nature. "This [is political in nature]", Haris Azhar told reporters, Monday, March 21.

In this case, the police are considered to have criminalized Haris and Fatia who are considered to be voicing the Papua issue through a video which was then uploaded to Haris Azhar's YouTube account.

The video is entitled 'There's a Lord Luhut Behind Intan Jaya's Military-OPS Economic Relations!! General BIN is also there!'.

In the video, the two discuss the results of research from several organizations such as KontraS (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence), Walhi, Jatam, YLBHI, Pusaka about the business of Indonesian National Army officials or retirees behind the gold mining business as well as plans to exploit the Wabu Block area in Intan Jaya, Papua.

The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Endra Zulpan, emphasized that the determination of the suspect Haris-Fatia was by the legal corridor during the case. "It's not [criminalizing]. We work based on legal facts", Zulpan said when confirmed, Sunday, March 20.
