Sienna Spiro Makes Visitor Debut Album a Celebration of Imperfection

JAKARTA - British young musician, Sienna Spiro, has officially released her debut studio album titled "Visitor" through the Capitol Records label.

In the process of making the album Visitor, Spiro worked with producer Omer Fedi to hone the honesty in delivering the message of the song without singing excessively. Spiro emphasizes that restraint and singing with full awareness are often the most powerful form of expression in music.

The album "Visitor" summarizes Spiro's reflections on impermanence, mental health as a neurodivergent, and the dynamics of life at 20 years old.

Through this work, he tries to embrace the impermanence of life and pour it into the form of a physical medium of a real vinyl record in the midst of the digital era.

"Turning 20 is complicated, the point. Everyone struggles. But in this industry, for some reason it feels good to be very young. You are faced with a difficult situation where you have to be mature and make life decisions, while making sure you remain a young soul to continue to learn and grow," said Spiro, quoted by Variety, Friday, August 7.

With the new album, the 20-year-old singer known for his signature 1960s hairstyle and smoky vocal character is now one of the strongest candidates in the Best New Artist nomination exchange at the upcoming Grammy Awards.

Spiro's popularity skyrocketed thanks to a series of singles that successfully broke into the charts, such as "Die on This Hill" which entered the top 20 in the United States and the top 10 in the UK.

Not stopping there, tickets for his upcoming North American tour are reportedly sold out before his official album is released.

The impact of Spiro's musicality can also be seen in talent shows such as American Idol, where his works such as "Maybe" are often performed by participants during auditions.

"Every time I hear someone doing that, it feels really crazy to me. When I was a kid, my sister and I used to play pretend auditions for Britain's Got Talent in my mom's bedroom," Spiro said.

In terms of musicality and fashion style, Spiro is often juxtaposed with Adele, Frank Sinatra, to the persona of Twiggy and The Ronettes.

He also admitted that he deliberately chose to join Capitol Records so that the label's iconic logo was printed on his vinyl album, just like Frank Sinatra's classic release.

Further behind the character of his vocal performance, Spiro revealed that he had a vocal cord nodule condition since childhood. This condition almost made him lose his voice for a full year before finally recovering.

"This vocal cord nodule is both a blessing and a curse. I love the texture it gives to my vocals, but I was almost mute for a year before last year. It's very complicated and isolating," he said.
