BMKG Reminds Residents To Beware Of Potential For Extreme Weather In NTT In The Next Week

KUPANG - Head of the El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station, Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Agung Sudiono Abadi, appealed to residents to be aware of extreme weather that could potentially occur in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region over the next week.

"The potential for extreme weather such as heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds of short duration as well as tornadoes can cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides", he said in Kupang, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.

He said this was related to the weather outlook for the next week (December 7-13) in the NTT region and the threat of potential disasters that could occur.

Agung explained that currently, the position of the sun is in the southern hemisphere causing Indonesia to have entered the rainy season.

The potential for the formation of convective clouds is starting to increase, including the NTT area which has the potential for moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds of short duration.

"In this potential threat of extreme weather, residents in NTT need to increase their vigilance to minimize the impact of the disaster", he said.
