US Military Bases In Syria Are Attacked Again, Five Rockets Hit The Airfield

JAKARTA - The United States military base Kharab al-Jir in Syria's Hasaka province was fired upon with rockets, state news agency SANA said in a report.

Citing TASS, November 24, five rockets were fired at the military airfield at the Kharab al-Jir base used by US forces.

In response to the attack, the United States military deployed a number of helicopters to try to detect the origin of the rocket launch. There were no reports of casualties or damage from this attack.

While citing The Jerusalem Post, an official from US Central Command (CENTCOM) told Al-Arabiya there was no injury or damage caused by the rocket attack, no impact near the base itself.

However, it is not yet clear who fired the rockets at the military base.

Since 2015, the United States command has created nine bases in northeastern Syria to assist the Kurdish alliance, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), in their fight against ISIS.

ISIS main posts in the region were eliminated in March 2019 by SDF units with Western coalition support. Meanwhile, Damascus views the US military presence as an illegal occupation accompanied by the seizure of natural resources belonging to the Syrian people.

To note, in October a suicide drone attack targeted the US Al Tanf US military base in Syria, with The New York Times reporting that according to anonymous US and Israeli intelligence officials, the attack was carried out in retaliation for Israeli air strikes in Syria.

The report said five suicide drones attacked the base. There were no casualties in the incident, as most of the troops were evacuated beforehand, according to Israeli intelligence leads. The drone was linked to Iran, as it was similar to that used in other attacks by pro-Iran militias.
