Kunto Aji Voices Social Issues: Artists Should Be Corong

JAKARTA - Kunto Aji is quite loud about the social, political or humanitarian issues that occur. He became one of the musicians who spread awareness related to the Emergency Warning via visuals on his stage of music.

The 37-year-old singer and songwriter feels the need to voice aspirations in his own way. Something that is already urgent should inspire many parties to react.

"This is not normal anxiety, people who usually never speak up start to speak up, it means something serious," said Kunto Aji when contacted by VOI, August 27.

It is undeniable that he is faced with other aspects on the ground in speaking. However, he has prepared ways to continue to state his position if he cannot take advantage of the visuals of the giant screen.

"There are other ways that can actually be done. I have plan B, for example, it can't be done on visuals, it can be on cellphones, on paper or attached to the guitar. The important thing is the gesture, it doesn't always have to be on LED," he explained.

In the context of guarding the Constitutional Court's decision, he felt it was very necessary to act, reminding the government if the people were the highest sovereignty holders in democracy.

"Because I think this is a very important issue. You could say what we are fighting for (the Constitutional Court's verdict) has been successful, has been heard and granted. Indeed, it should be like that, the government should be afraid of our voices," he said.

Kunto Aji also believes that the sensitivity in reacting is also felt by other musicians. As is known, the Indies, Nadin, The Adams and several others have shown similar steps to their respective roles.

"There is no coordination whatsoever, musicians are fast, you can think about it. When I got visuals (on stage) Baskara tweeted, even though I didn't read Baskara's tweet. I'm sure those who think like that are not just us, but many musicians. This is something that runs naturally," he added.

In the end, Kunto Aji believes artists should be able to become funnels representing the public to respond to what is happening around him.

"We each have a way to fight. So what we actually show is gestures. Artists should be funnels, yes, they can voice social issues better," he said.
