JAKARTA - After being canceled, the Glastonbury Festival is back with a plan for a two-night concert. Organizers are also planning a camp for audiences this summer.
One of the organizers, Emily Eavis said on Instagram that they had applied for board permission. Even so, Eavis has not been able to confirm the certainty of its implementation.
"It's great to dream up plans and hope some of these things could potentially happen later this year," she wrote on Instagram.
The festival itself was canceled in January for the second consecutive year.
The Eavis family usually welcomes more than 200,000 people to their farm in Pilton, Somerset each June.
"Of course, we don't yet know if we can do that. But we want the application to come in with opportunities," wrote Eavis.
"There's no way we'll have any news for a few months," she added.
Regarding the application, Eavis detailed an explanation that it was proposed for a "family-friendly (not party) camp on the farm for this summer."
"Again, it is uncertain that it will continue to run but it is necessary to move the starting wheels now."
Planned to be virtual
However, this possibility is considered better than a virtual concert. In December 2020, Eavis told the BBC that they saw the possibility of the Glastonbury Festival being streamed.
Glastonbury is the UK's largest music festival and one of the first on the calendar. Another major festival scheduled to be held in June, Download, has also been canceled.
Meanwhile, the Isle of Wight has been pushed back to September. According to the government's reopening roadmap, social contact restrictions could be lifted from June 21, depending on the number of cases and official review.
Most of the festivals scheduled to take place after June, including Reading and Leeds, Latitude, Parklife, and Womad, are planned to continue.
