JAKARTA - The new Syrian rulers have appointed a number of foreign militant members including from Uighurs, Jordan and Turkey to join the army.
A source told Reuters on Tuesday, December 31, the withdrawal of foreign militants into the Syrian army was an attempt to unite rebel groups that both toppled Bashar Assad's regime.
The foreign militants got an official role in the Syrian military, even being placed in senior positions.
The move left a number of Syrian countries and citizens worried about the intentions of a new government that had promised not to export the Islamic revolution and rule tolerantly.
The official reason for the withdrawal of foreign militants is not yet known.
The source said, of the total 50 military roles announced by the Syrian Ministry of Defense last Sunday, at least six positions were given to foreigners.
