JAKARTA - Porsche, a sports car brand from Germany, has succeeded in creating iconic cars and providing added value to each vehicle.
One example of a Porsche car offering an extraordinary added value was the Porsche America Roadster in 1952. This car will be included in the National Historical Vehicle Register as a symbol of the success of manufacturers in the United States.
Reporting from Carscoops, Saturday, June 10, his car has the chassis number 12336, being one of 16 aluminum cars made specifically for American racers by Porsche. The cars were built thanks to efforts by legendary importer Max Hoffman and famous racing car driver and dealer, John von Neumann.
This car was then driven by von Neumann's son, Total von Neumann, who won a number of victories with this legendary roadster, despite his short racing career.
The success of von Neumann and other riders using 15 other units of the car prompted Porsche to assemble more competitive models than relying solely on the basic 356 model that became the basis of the America Roadster.
"The unique relationship between this car and Max Hoffman, as well as John and Total von Neumann, makes it an extraordinary example to document and preserve Porsche's story at the Library of Congress so that it can be learned by future generations," said Casey Maxon, senior manager of heritage of the Hagerty Drivers Foundation.
The announcement of the placement of the Porsche America Roadster in the National Historical Vehicle Register was held on June 10 at the Porsche Broad Arrow Group celebration commemorating its 75th anniversary at the Porsvhe Experience Center in Atlanta.
This celebration is also an opportunity to honor the previous owner, Robert Ingram, who bought this car in 2009. This car has undergone restoration by Road Scholars led by Ingram's son, Cam Ingram, in 2018.
