Mental Disorder Triggers Youth Dare To Be Desperate And Act Extremely

JAKARTA - Teenagers who dare to be reckless are apparently influenced by mental disorders. This was said by clinical psychologist A. Kasandra Putranto, considering that recently there have been many cases of teenagers in South Jakarta who have the heart to kill their own fathers and grandmothers.

According to Kasandra, several factors can trigger teenagers to take extreme actions when facing problems, one of which is mental health problems.

"Several factors that can cause people, especially teenagers, to take such extreme actions, include mental health problems, problems in the family, and social pressure," Kasandra said as quoted by Antara.

He explained that a number of emotional mental disorders, personality disorders, and mental disorders can trigger aggressive behavior, making it difficult for individuals to control the urge to take extreme action in certain situations.

According to him, an unhealthy family environment and care can also trigger individuals to take extreme action in certain situations.

"Domestic violence or sexual violence is also one of the factors causing it," he said.

He said children raised in a family environment full of violence or anxiety can experience difficulties in managing emotions and are at risk of showing aggressive behavior, including towards close people such as their parents or relatives.

"Children who experience violence or trauma in childhood are more likely to develop behavioral disorders, depression, or even personality disorders, which can lead to acts of violence in the future," he said.

Kasandra said teenagers are often trapped in major internal conflicts such as identity searches, peer pressure, or academic problems.

Unmanaged stress accompanied by a lack of problem-resistant skills, he said, could encourage teens to release emotions in a destructive way, including committing violence.

According to him, excessive exposure to violent content in entertainment media such as video games and films can also affect teenagers to take impulsive actions and increase their chances of engaging in violent behavior.

Kasandra said that the media was not the only factor. Combination of internal factors such as mental health disorders and external factors such as media influences can exacerbate the tendency of violence in adolescents.
