Reasons For Qibla Films Are Prohibited From Airing By MUI Chairs

JAKARTA - The production house Leo Pictures has just announced their latest film in collaboration with big Indonesian stars such as Yasmin Napper, Ria Ricis, to Arbani Yasiz entitled Qiblat.

Unfortunately, just released their official trailer some time ago, this film has received direct protests by the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Muhammad Cholil Nafis.

This was conveyed directly by Cholil Nafis through his official X or Twitter account, where previously one of the netizens asked for his opinion regarding this Kiblat film. Although he has not seen the whole film, Cholil is worried that there will be deviations from the title of the film itself.

"I don't know what the contents of the film are, so I can't comment yet. But the picture is scary, it's called Qibla. I opened up the meaning of Qibla, only Kaaba, the direction of facing prayer people," said Cholil as quoted by VOI from the X account @cholilnafis, Monday, March 25.

Furthermore, Cholil felt that this film was inappropriate to be shown because visuals were too scary and feared that they would become a black campaign for Islam.

"If this is true, this film really is inappropriate and a black campaign of religious teachings must be taken down and cannot be shown," continued Cholil Nafis.

It did not stop there, Cholil Nafis also regretted the use of religious teachings in films in order to reap profits and to get the attention of the audience only.

"It is often used sensitive promotions and controversies to attract attention and many spectators. But when it comes to religion, it is usually not allowed to watch," he continued.

Seeing this, according to Cholil, such actions should not be carried out again by filmmakers and must be fought so that they do not spread further.

"Often religious reactions are played by business people to reap material benefits. This one should not be allowed to be fought," he said.
