Elementary School Children Are Vulnerable To Dental And Oral Problems, Need The Right Education

JAKARTA - Elementary school age groups are the most vulnerable to dental and oral health problems. The SKRT-SKN survey revealed that tooth and mouth disease ranks first for 10 diseases complained by the Indonesian people with a prevalence of 61%.

Awareness to maintain dental hygiene and health is important considering the problem with teeth can cause daily problems with speech and eating difficulties, as well as a lot of pain.

Therefore, awareness of maintaining teeth will be better if it is instilled in children from an early age. The reason is, there are many bad effects on the health of the body if dental and oral care is not carried out consistently and as early as possible.

8-11 year old children are an age group that is critical of the occurrence of permanent dental problems because this age is a transition period from milk teeth to permanent teeth. A total of 89% of Indonesian children under 12 years old suffer from tooth and mouth disease. Thus, preventive measures against tooth and mouth disease in the community, in this case, school-age children are very important actions. Brushing teeth is an easy way to prevent and reduce the number of dental and oral health problems in the future," said Dr.drg. Hananto Seno, Sp BMM(K), FICD, chairman of Indonesia's ICD Section XV Region 38.

The EGGSPERIMENT method initiated by Formula Oral Care is one way to educate the public, especially elementary school students about the importance of maintaining dental and oral health.

As an educational process, Formula together with the International College of Dentists (ICD), and the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI) together with the Kuningan Regency Government held social education and treatment of free teeth and mouths in Kuningan Regency, West Java on October 12-14, 2023. This social service is a form of concern for the health of the teeth and mouth of the Indonesian people.

Around 10,000 students from more than 39 elementary schools in Kuningan Regency, West Java attended the Social Service and Care for Dental and Mouth Health held by the International College of Dentists (ICD) Section XV Region 38 Indonesia, Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI) Kuningan Regency.

"Continuing our commitment, native Indonesian oral care products, to reduce tooth and mouth problems in Indonesia, we together with ICD and PDGI and the Kuningan Regency Government held social services in Kuningan Regency. Last year we did it on the island of Lombok, with participants around 5,000 students, and in 2023 in Kuningan Regency we targeted 10,000 students and 5,000 the general public. To educate these students we used the EGGSPERIMEN method, a simple experimental activity that is easily understood by all groups to show the importance of doing regular and proper dental treatment," said Harianus Zebua, Head of Corporate and Marketing Communication OT Group (Formula Oral Care) in a media statement received by VOI, Tuesday, October 24.

Formula contributes to educating and caring for the health of the teeth and mouths of the Indonesian people. "In 2023, we again stimulated dental and oral health education, especially to students using the EGGSPERIMENT' method, starting at the commemoration of National Dental Health Day this year we continue to move to educate to reach a number of students in several cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Kuningan, Solok, Malang and Palembang," concluded Harianus.

The activities inaugurated by the Regent of Kuningan, H. Acep Purnama, SH., MH were held in three locations, namely the Kuningan Regent's Office, Luragung Sub-district Office, and the Darma Reservoir tourist area.
