Fadli Zon: National Culture Is A National Treasure

JAKARTA Indonesia's national cultural wealth is a treasure that must be maintained and developed. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon emphasized this when opening the "Talkshow Reflection on 12 Years of the 2005 UNESCO Convention in Indonesia" in Jakarta, Monday (25/11/2024).

Indonesia's national culture has a strategic meaning, as mandated by Article 32 of the 1945 Constitution. The state is responsible for advancing culture in the midst of world civilization while protecting people's freedom in maintaining cultural values. This shows how visionary our nation's founders are," said Fadli Zon.

He also mentioned that the current government's vision is to advance Indonesia politically and economically while maintaining its cultural character.

Fadli Zon, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha, highlighted Indonesia's position as one of the countries with the largest cultural diversity in the world.

"Indonesia is a mega diversity. We have hundreds of languages covering 10 percent of the total world language. This is wealth that should not be underestimated," he said.

During the last 12 years, the implementation of the 2005 UNESCO Convention in Indonesia has been reported three times by the Ministry of Culture, namely in 2016, 2020, and 2024. Prof. Aman Wirakartakusumah, Senior Editor of LPE Indonesia, explained through video recordings that the four main points of this convention include the development of cultural governance and the creative economy.

"The Ministry of Culture also provides sustainable financial support through the Dana Indonesiana program, to involve artists and cultural activists in the protection and promotion of cultural expressions," said Prof. Safe.

In addition, the Ministry of Culture's program also pays attention to vulnerable groups, such as women, people with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and the younger generation, in cultural participation and the creative economy. This initiative also places culture as a strategic element in sustainable national development.

Chairman of the Central PWI Hendry Ch. Bangun, who was also present at this event, fully supports the government's steps to advance culture.

"PWI will become the government's strategic partner in ensuring the successful promotion of national culture," said Hendry. He also expressed his appreciation for the openness of the Minister of Culture to have an audience with PWI to strengthen synergy in promoting Indonesian culture.
