The Indonesian Repoeblik Motor Transport Service Department Allegedly Ignoring Labor Rights, The Amount Of Holiday Allowances That Have Been Paid Only IDR 700 Thousand

JAKARTA - Workers who are members of the Aerospace, Digital, and Transportation Workers' Union (SPDT FSPMI) protested against the Indonesian Repoeblik Motor Transport Service Department or Perum DAMRI. This state-owned transportation company is said to be providing holiday allowances (THR) 2021 which is not in accordance with government regulations.

The General Chairman of SPDT FSPMI Iswan Abdullah revealed that the management of DAMRI to this day has not carried out the order of the law regarding holiday allowances. According to him, the amount of holiday allowance payments received by workers is far below the applicable regulations.

Furthermore, Iswan said that referring to the applicable laws and regulations, the amount of holiday allowance received is a one-time salary. Thus, this DAMRI management action is a violation.

"In Java, in the Bandung area, which is the center of DAMRI, only IDR 700.000 had been paid. This is a violation. For that we ask the DAMRI management as well as the government as the owner, the person in charge of running the State-Owned Enterprises encourages the directors to fulfill their obligations", he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, June 16.

Furthermore, Iswan said that his party asked the DAMRI management to comply with the provisions of the law regarding the payment of holiday allowance. He also asked management not to use the COVID-19 excuse as a way to ignore the rights of workers.

Iswan suspects that regarding the holiday allowance payment, the DAMRI management has reported to the government in this case the Minister of Manpower that it has fulfilled the obligation to pay holiday allowance.

"It could be that the directors conveyed to the government that they had already given the holiday allowance, but they didn't", he explained.

Not only holiday allowance, Iswan said DAMRI also has problems because it provides wages to workers with figures below the minimum wage. Therefore, DAMRI was asked to provide a clear example. Because DAMRI is a state-owned company.

"What we ask is perhaps the Minister of State-owned Enterprises (BUMN) and the government to resolve the neglect of the rights of workers at DAMRI. Where both in Java and in the regions there are pawnshops which apparently have not been paid for 5 to 8 months", he said.
