Ministry Of Transportation Asks PO Bus To Pay Attention To Driver Working Hours In The Christmas And New Year 2025 Period

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Land Transportation appealed to all public transportation companies, especially tourism buses during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru) transportation periods to prioritize safety aspects.

This appeal is in line with several accidents involving tourism buses in recent days such as a bus accident on the Pandaan-Malang Toll Road on Monday, December 23. Then on the Cipularang Toll Road Km 80 and Km 92 on December 26.

Plt. Director General of Land Transportation, Ahmad Yani said that according to the mandate of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning LLAJ, drivers are required to rest after driving for four consecutive hours. Because, this is related to the safety of drivers and passengers.

Moreover, he continued, based on the results of the investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC), about 80 percent of accidents in public transportation occurred due to driver fatigue.

Furthermore, Ahmad Yani said other causes include the behavior of the driver, such as exceeding the speed limit, being careless when driving, neglecting to check the condition of the vehicle, violating traffic rules, and others.

"According to Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning LLAJ, drivers of public motorized vehicles are required to rest after driving for four consecutive hours. Drivers should not force driving if they are tired or sleepy because it can be dangerous," he said in an official statement, quoted Friday, December 27.

Given that this is a long holiday moment and most people go on vacation, the Directorate General of Hubdat together with relevant stakeholders have appealed to tourism object business actors to prepare a proper resting place for drivers.

Selain perlu memperhatikan jam kerja pengendara, Ahmad Yani menekankan PO bus juga harus melakukan uji periodik kendaraan sebelum digunakan. Dia menekankan keselamatan adalah hal yang tidak dapat ditawar.

For goods transport vehicles, continued Ahmad Yani, drivers are asked to check the brakes before traveling and pay attention to the main driving procedure on the downhill road.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Hubdat together with stakeholders continue to supervise and socialize safety to bus POs, freight transport companies and drivers to minimize recurring accidents and ensure the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays run smoothly.
