JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif is targeting an additional 42 million barrels of oil from drilling 7 wells in Banyu Urip Field, namely 5 infill wells and 2 plastic wells.

As for the 7 wells, 6 wells will tax in 2024 and 1 well will tax in 2025. Then 1 well has officially produced 13,300 BOPD.

"The inaugural oil that we witnessed today is oil produced from the B13 well of 13,300 barrels, which is the first well of this project," said Arifin, quoted on Saturday, August 10.

Arifin added, to produce these additional productions, special efforts are needed and from this infill it is estimated that Arifin will have an additional production of 40-60 million barrels and can be used to reduce the decline in the production rate of oil (decline).

This activity is expected to increase Banyu Urip's field production by 42 million barrels so that it can increase oil production in the Banyu Urip field, which currently contributes about 25% of oil production nationally. This infill and plastic well drilling activity can add 20,000 to 30,000 barrels per day so that it can curb production reduction rates.

"In this infill layer, it is estimated that an additional 40-60 million barrels will be added, we will take it first to hold back the decline or decline and what we are taking today from the B-13 well is 13,300 barrels and the visibleness can still be more," continued Arifin.

Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto added, after the first well B13 produced, it is hoped that in the fourth quarter of 2024, the second well, namely B12 well, will follow onstream according to the Work Program & Budget (WP&B) target.

"It is hoped that from these two wells it can contribute to the annual average production of approximately 9285 BOPD in 2024. Even though the first onstream well had shifted, SKK Migas hoped that BUIC would still be able to make the same contribution as targeted in WP&B 2024," said Dwi.

After the first and second onstream wells, three other wells from this project, namely Sumur C13, C14, and C19, are targeted for onstream in the first quarter of 2026. Likewise for 2 clastic wells namely C15 and C21, it is hoped that later information from these wells can provide more accurate data on the potential content of Banyu Urip Field Plastic layer oil with an estimated 3P reserve of approximately 670 million barrels of oil.

"The BUIC project is expected to reach peak production in 2027 with a production level of 19,000 BOPD. We ask for support from all stakeholders for the construction of these wells so that we can fulfill this onstream target," concluded Dwi.
