Bappenas Says Countries Can Advance By Carrying Out Sustainable Development

JAKARTA - Coordinator of the National Secretariat Expert Team of SDGs of the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Yanuar Nugroho said the state could progress if it continued to carry out sustainable development.

"To become a successful country, we don't need to damage the environment. We can progress, so we can succeed by staying (sustained)," Yanuar said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 26.

According to him, currently the perception that is popular with the public is that a country does not need to pay attention to sustainable development in the process of becoming a developed country.

Yanuar emphasized that public education is important to straighten out this perception, one of which is through the role of journalists who according to him are at the forefront of providing education to the general public.

"I really want my friends in this media to be on the forefront (frontline) to help educate the public that to move forward we do not sacrifice sustainability," said Yanuar. ) to be promoted in Indonesia.

One of the encouragements provided by the government to achieve this target is to develop the SDGs Financing Hub.

Yanuar explained, SDGs Financing Hub is an investment platform provided by the government as a place for business people to invest their capital for sustainable development while at the same time closing the government's SDGs financing gap.

"Because of COVID-19, the need for development funding is a huge difference and the government cannot meet it. Before Covid-19 alone, the need was Rp. 14,000 trillion to reach SDGs in 2030. After COVID-19 was recalculated, the need was Rp. 24,000 trillion until 2030," Yanuar explained.

Therefore, the financing gap in realizing SDGs can be overcome by attracting business people who invest in it to be allocated to sustainable development projects.

"Not charity (disbursement of funds) giving money, but long-term investments and impacts that can affect and improve the lives of many people," said Yanuar.
