Freeport Boss Visits Coordinating Ministry For The Economy. Discuss What?

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Tony Wenas visited the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs (Kemenko Perekonomian).

Tony Wenas' arrival aims to discuss the export license for the copper concentrate which ended on December 31, 2024.

"Yes, this is being discussed (exports of copper concentrate)," said Tony, Friday, December 3.

Moreover, recently the Freepot smelter located in Gresik, East Java experienced a fire that affected the temporary cessation of purification activities.

"It's still full to stop. If it's fixed, it's impossible to produce. That's why it captures CO2," Tony continued.

Regarding the decision to export a copper concentrate, Tony emphasized that this was still under the authority of the government.

"If the limit depends on when it depends on the government," he added.

Meanwhile, Plt. Expert Staff for Regulation, Law Enforcement, and Economic Resilience of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, Elen Setiadi said, the meeting with Tony today discussed ramp-up or an increase in smelter purification capacity, which is currently operationally stalled.

"He said it was still six months away, just finished. The start of the ramp-up. Anyway, semester 1 is over," said Elen.
