JAKARTA - Wednesday, December 2, the application for the Goo Hara Act or the Goo Hara Law passed in a meeting of the South Korean Parliamentary Council. The law was designed to prevent negligent parents from claiming the inheritance of their children who died. Goo Hara's family and fans have had a long way to go to get to this point.

Fans suspect, this is the impact of the case of Goo Hara with his ex-girlfriend, Choi Jong Bum. In 2018 they got into an argument in which Choi Jong Bum reported to the police that Goo Hara was violent against him.

Instead, Goo Hara claims Choi Jong Bum blackmailed him and threatened to spread his nude videos and photos. This year, Choi Jong Bum was charged by prosecutors for filming without his consent, engaging in intimidation, coercion, assault resulting in injury, and damage to property.

Although Choi Jong Bum had denied all of Goo Hara's claims, Choi Jong Bum received a prison sentence of one year and six months which was suspended for three years of probation. If he commits an offense within three years of probation, he will serve a sentence of one year and six months.

Goo Hara's mother is back

Not only about Choi Jung Bum, another problem arose in March this year. News portal Dispatch reported that Goo Hara's family was involved in a dispute over Goo Hara's inheritance after she died in November 2019.

Goo Hara's mother tries to take half of the inheritance that Goo Hara left behind. In fact, his mother left Goo Hara since he was in elementary school.

Meanwhile, his father works at a construction site in South Korea, so young Goo Hara is taken care of by his grandmother and siblings Goo Ho In. The mother herself gave up custody in 2006 and two years later Goo Hara made her debut with KARA and became popular.

Goo Ho In raised his voice after suing his mother regarding the distribution of Goo Hara's assets. He told about his mother's presence at Goo Hara's funeral.

"She (Goo Hara's mother) was holding the phone in a strange way and it turned out that she was recording a video to gather evidence, so we took her phone and deleted the video," he said to SBS Fun E.

“Two days after the funeral, I was contacted regarding Goo Hara's property. When I came to that place, there were two people who claimed to be my mother's lawyers. At that time I thought 'Ah, he recruited a lawyer to take Hara's property'. "

In 2017, Goo Hara and her mother met for the first time in 10 years. Goo Ho In said Goo Hara looked silent when he met his mother.

Goo Ho In filed the Goo Hara Act as a revision of the current inheritance law. According to the current Inheritance Law, if a person dies and does not have a child, then the parents have the right to property even though they did not raise the child.

Goo Hara's father admits that all Goo Hara's inheritance he has given to Goo Ho In is because Hoo In is the head of the family.

In his official statement, Goo Ho In filed for the Goo Hara Act because he did not want a similar incident in the future like this. "I realized when the Goo Hara Act was accepted, it wouldn't apply to my family matters."

"However, it is not only my wish but Hara's wish that there is no tragedy where the parents receive the benefits of death after leaving their child."

Thanks to the help of fans all over the world, the petition created by Goo Ho In has been signed by 100,000 people within 30 days. If a petition posted on the Blue House website reaches 100 thousand signatures it must be evaluated by the Parliament.

Want to Build a Foundation

When interviewed by MBC, Goo Ho In hoped that if he won the case or the mother gave up his inheritance rights, he wanted to start a foundation and be able to help single parents such as fathers, mothers, and young people who wanted to become celebrities but had difficulties.

The Goo Hara Act proposed by Goo Ho In aims for justice between heirs so that inheritance is only given to someone who contributes to the child's life. Goo Hara's brother said his father raised them from childhood with limited economic conditions and became their guardian after Goo Hara's debut.

Launching Sports Kyunghyang, Tuesday, December 1, the Parliament passed 51 bills including the law regarding the suspension of military service for pop artists, awards for artists with good reputation, and the Goo Hara Act proposed by Goo Ho In.

The government will limit the rights of families who do not raise their children after their child dies, but Goo Ho In and the Hara family have a long way to go, so fans and the public hope that this law can be passed soon.
