JAKARTA - The Indonesian delegation at the Senior Official Meeting (SOM) chaired by the Indonesian Permanent Representative for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OKI), Ambassador Yusron B. Ambary, successfully scored a draft resolution regarding the formation of OIC Groups in non-OIC countries and international organizations (OI).
The draft resolution proposed with Turkey and Bangladesh as co-sponsors is an effort for the institutionalization of the OIC Groups consisting of OIC member countries in the non-OIC state capital and OI headquarters such as the United Nations.
"This OIC Groups aims to unite the voices and strategies of OIC member countries in dealing with various issues that are of concern to the OIC, including the Palestinian issue, Islamophobia and the issue of blasphemy against Islam in several countries," said Ambassador Yusron in a written statement, Wednesday, April 30.
"In carrying out its duties, the OIC Groups will be guided by the decision of the OKI Foreign Ministers Council and the Islamic Summit which is the highest decision-making forum in the organization," said Ambassador Yusron.
The Indonesian initiative with Turkey and Bangladesh received broad support from all member countries, with some constructive input regarding its operationalization from several member countries.
It is known that the SOM which took place on 27-29 April 2025 was a preparatory meeting ahead of the OKI Foreign Ministers Council meeting which will be held in Istanbul on 21-22 June 2025.
