KPU Will Optimize The Role Of Moderators In The Debate Of Presidential Candidates

JAKARTA - KPU member August Mellaz stated that his party would optimize the role of moderator in the third debate of the 2024 presidential election.

According to him, the role of moderators in principle does not change. This is because moderators still regulate the flow to read out questions that have been compiled by panelists.

"But the pattern of the division of roles from moderators for the implementation of the second debate yesterday is considered quite optimal," said Mellaz as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 27.

"Some read out questions, some then made observations of the forum," he continued.

However, he acknowledged that there was one precedent that had not been reached by the KPU, such as an abbreviation that confused one of the vice presidential candidates.

Therefore, Mellaz emphasized that the KPU will optimize the role of moderators in carrying out its functions. Not only that, the KPU will also ask for help from theliaison officer (LO) of each pair of candidates to conduct a briefing or related directive.

"We will also optimize the role of moderators to be able to carry out their functions, for example, abbreviation, in principle of course this is part of the task of LO to carry out a hybridization of their respective candidate pairs," said Mellaz.

The KPU also did the same thing to the panelist team. If there is a term or stands for, the moderator can take a role to explain it without reducing the time allocation of the presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate during the debate.

"But overall everything went well and as an evaluation between the implementation of the first and second debates the longer the more patterns we have met," he said.
