Iran Calls Israel's Murder Of Journalists In Gaza A War Crime

JAKARTA - Iran strongly condemns Israeli attacks that killed journalists in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, saying they are protected by international law.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said Tehran condemned the airstrikes that killed five journalists.

The occupation military attack on journalists' vehicles constitutes a war crime, with journalists and media personnel working in conflict zones protected from any attack based on international humanitarian law, quoted from IRNA December 26.

Highlighting the death of more than 200 journalists during 15 months of genocide in Gaza, Baghaei noted that the occupation regime is targeting the media to stop raising awareness among global public opinion about the extent to which crimes crimes have committed against the Palestinian people.

Baghaei called on the International Court to add the new crime to the genocide case filed against the Israeli regime.

He also warned that international human rights abuses taking place in Gaza, coupled with inadequate responses from relevant international agencies, seriously undermining engagement norms and rules.

As previously reported, five Palestinian journalists were killed after Israeli warplanes attacked a vehicle, despite safe circumstances, with press writing in front of Al-Awda Hospital in central Gaza on Thursday morning.

The victims have been identified as Fadi Hassouna, Ibrahim al-Sheikh Ali, Mohammed al-Ladah, Faisal Abu al-Qumsan, and Ayman al-Jadi.

The journalists from the Al-Quds Al-Youm TV channel covered various events near Al-Awda Hospital, which is located in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Separately, medical sources in Gaza confirmed that as of Thursday the Palestinian death toll from Israeli attacks since the latest conflict broke out on October 7, 2023, reached 45,399 people, while injuries reached 107,940, with the majority of the victims being children and women, as quoted by WAFA.
