Molinas has produced 20,000 units, Prabowo challenges 2 million motorbikes

CIKARANG - President Prabowo Subianto challenged the National Electric Motor or Molinas manufacturers to increase production after being able to produce 20,000 units. He even set a figure of 200,000 to 2 million units as the next achievement.

Prabowo made the statement during the launch of Molinas in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, August 13.

"Today the Indika group has successfully produced 20,000 motorcycles. I told the Indika group, if you reach 200,000, I will come again. Two million I will come again," said Prabowo.

Prabowo said that he had previously asked to see the production facilities after being shown an electric motorcycle that had been developed a few months ago.

He wants to ensure that the vehicle is actually produced in Indonesia and not a product from abroad that is only branded locally.

"I said I want to see you have a factory. Is it true that your factory?" he said.

Prabowo admitted that he had questioned the possibility of such practices.

"Or maybe the company from where, you just put your brand. Well, this, this is a lot of this kind of culture," he said.

According to Prabowo, the use of foreign products in the initial stage is still understandable, but the ability of the domestic industry must continue to increase.

"As a start, it's okay. We can start, but we have to be smart over time," he said.

He assessed that the development of Molinas was a risky step because it had to deal with vehicle players from countries that already have strong industries, such as Japan, South Korea, and China.

Therefore, Prabowo asked Danantara to provide enabling support to national producers.

He also encouraged private companies, SOEs, the government, and universities to work together in a scheme he called Indonesia Incorporated.
