JAKARTA - Volkswagen has stated that it cannot provide certainty whether it will return to producing cars in Russia, which is currently in conflict with Ukraine.

"Russia's Volkswagen Group has suspended production in Russia until further notice", Volkswagen said as reported by Antara from the Russian News Agency, TASS, Sunday.

"The company is closely monitoring developments. Considering the high level of uncertainty of the overall situation, we cannot yet estimate the potential timeframe for the resumption of production in Russia", they said.

However, Volkswagen said it would continue to pay salaries to its employees to Russian labor regulations, even though its plant in Kaluga - west of Moscow City - is still not operational.

"Russia's Volkswagen Group remains in stop mode, but the company continues to pay salaries by Russian law", the company said.

Volkswagen, which has ceased operations in Russia since March 2022, also stated that it could not provide any projections or estimates of production numbers by 2022.
