Lebanese PM Discusses Israel When Meeting US Foreign Minister: Weapons Must Be Dismissed, Diplomacy Prioritized

JAKARTA - Lebanese interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati claims ethnic cleansing is taking place in northern Gaza and the Israeli government ignores anyone.

"We are seeing northern Gaza now where we see ethnic cleansing happening and it must be stopped," Mikati told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a meeting in London on Friday, October 25.

Mitaki said the situation in northern Gaza was getting worse. "The Israeli government doesn't listen to anyone and this has to stop," he stressed.

Blinken and Mikati also discussed the war in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah.

Mikati stressed that the Lebanese government wants to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which helped end the 2006 Lebanese War, called for a permanent ceasefire in the country and stipulated Hezbollah should retreat to the north of the Litani River.

" Applying these resolutions can help save thousands of lives," said Mitaki.

No one justifies the continuation of the war. Weapons must be ruled out, diplomacy must be prioritized. We have to save the whole region from the brink of destruction," he added.

Blinken, who also met Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in London, said the US was intensely involved in talks about ending the war in Gaza and mapping the path to what would happen next.

"This is an important and urgent moment that we are trying to take advantage of," Blinken said.
