Semarang City Government Public Service Normal After The KPK Search

JAKARTA - Public services in all areas of the Semarang City Government (Pemkot) continue to run normally after a search conducted by investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Assistant for the Economy and People's Welfare of the Semarang City Regional Secretariat, Hernowo Budi Luhur, ensured that government services would continue to run normally as usual.

It is known that KPK investigators searched a number of agencies in the Semarang City Hall complex, on Wednesday, July 17.

The search was carried out in the Deputy Mayor's Office and Regional Secretary, as well as the Semarang City Goods/Services Procurement Agency.

On Thursday, July 18, the KPK resumed searches in four agencies, namely the Social Service and the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Semarang City.

Then, the Department of Communication and Information (Diskominfo), as well as the Semarang City Housing and Settlement Areas (Disperkim) Office.

Hernowo said there were no service problems even though several government offices within the Semarang City Hall were searched.

"The service is still ongoing. There are no obstacles. We are still running as usual," he said, when met by reporters when he was about to leave the office.

Similarly, the Head of the Semarang City Disperkim Yudi Wibowo said that services to the community were still running as usual.

He mentioned several services that are under the authority of the Disperkim, including tree softening, tree cutting, construction of uninhabitable houses (RTLH), infrastructure work.

"Residents' requests, tree splits, tree cuts, RTLH, infrastructure, normative. Send a letter to the mayor, it can be through a proposal, or through the village head. We will check the field later, submit it to the priority scale," he said.

Previously, the KPK had stated that the search was related to the handling of three alleged corruption cases within the Semarang City Government.

The three cases of alleged corruption include the procurement of goods and services within the Semarang City Government for 2023-2024, the alleged extortion of civil servants for incentives for collecting taxes and levies in the Semarang City area, as well as the alleged receipt of gratuities for 2023-2024.

KPK investigators have also named a number of parties as suspects in the case, but have not provided further information regarding the identities of the parties.

KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto said four people had been prevented from traveling abroad in connection with the investigation of the alleged corruption case.

The four people who were prohibited from traveling abroad, consisting of two people came from state officials and the rest were private parties.
