Dukcapil Of DKI Jakarta Requests Incoming Migrants from Regions Without Housing and Jobs to Avoid Jakarta

JAKARTA - The Department of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of DKI Jakarta has stated that the number of new arrivals or population migration after Eid al-Fitr 2023 in Jakarta has increased. This is due to the improving national economy and the pandemic slowly becoming endemic.

"This year's number is relatively higher than the previous year. Our prediction regarding new arrivals, or commonly known as migration to DKI Jakarta, this year is around 20-30% or 40,000 people", said Budi Awaluddin, Head of Dukcapil DKI Jakarta, when confirmed by VOI on Wednesday, April 26.

Budi mentioned that this data is based on the trend from year to year. He stated that generally, newcomers come from the island of Java.

"Because besides being accessible by land transportation only, there are also more people on the island of Java", he said.

Budi urged newcomers who do not have skills, expertise, and a place to live not to take the risk of going to Jakarta. He added that the anticipation efforts conducted this year are slightly different from the previous year, and he hopes they will be effective.

"We have carried out massive socialization through various media channels related to the appeal to potential newcomers. If they do not have a guarantee of housing and a job, it is better not to come to Jakarta", he said.

Until now, Budi confirmed that DKI Jakarta still remains a magnet for immigrants with various interests.

Based on the data from the Dukcapil DKI Jakarta since the previous year, Budi said that the motivations of newcomers to the capital Jakarta vary.

"Starting from family, work, education to health factors", he said.
