Inhil Resident Ernawati's Story In Fighting Crocodiles And Escape The Crocodile's Bite

PEKANBARU - Ernawati (40) dueled with a crocodile and managed to escape the crocodile's bite on her right hand, after briefly resisting the sharp-toothed animal, in the waters of Teluk Nabung Village, Gaung District, Indragiri Hilir (Inhil) Regency, Riau.

Ernawati hit the crocodile's head with her left hand, so that the crocodile's bite on her right hand was released. The incident occurred on Wednesday (21/9), at 12.00 WIB when she was washing clothes in the river.

"While washing clothes in a river in Teluk Nabung Village, suddenly my right hand was attacked by a crocodile," said Erna, in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, September 23.

Ernawati said the crocodile bite on her hand was very strong. In the midst of the intense pain she felt, she tried to fight back by hitting and punching the crocodile's head with her left hand.

"The crocodile's bite was very strong on my right hand. I tried to take it off but she was biting more. Then I hit and punched the crocodile's head with my left hand. Finally, it was released, but my hand was injured," she said.

Indragiri Hilir Police Chief, AKBP Norhayat, claimed to have received information and reports of residents being attacked by crocodiles. She said the victim survived, but suffered injuries.

"The victim was taken to the hospital for medical treatment," Norhayat said.

The residents then called the Public Health Center officers in Teluk Kabung to help Ernawati. Currently the victim's condition is stable, but still experiencing trauma.

Norhayat appealed to people who live and work on the banks of the river to be careful.

"Especially with crocodiles that can attack at any time. We must be aware of crocodile attacks that can come at any time," he said.
