Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates In 2024 Escorted By Dozens Of Police, This Is Their Job

Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari explained that the duties of hundreds of members of the security and escort team for presidential candidates (candidates) and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 General Election are filled by members of the National Police.

Hasyim explained that the security and escort of presidential and vice-presidential candidates has become a policy that is carried out every election implementation.

The regulations are contained in Presidential Regulation Number 85 of 2018 concerning Security and Guards of Candidates for President and Vice President in the Implementation of General Elections.

"The issue of security and escort of presidential and vice-presidential candidates has become a policy from time to time, from election to election. In essence, how many personnel are prepared, the basis for calculating is of course from the police," said Hasyim at the KPU office, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 13.

Hasyim explained that the duties of security and escort members consist of protocol matters such as the time, place, and activities of each presidential candidate.

Then, there is also a team that oversees and secures transportation and smooth traffic. Then, there is a team that handles the health of each presidential and vice presidential candidate.

"So, there is one unit of security, each of which is as I mentioned," explained Hasyim.

The handover of security and escort personnel is determined in the minutes of cooperation between the KPU and the Police. The number of security and escort task forces deployed was 444 people.

KPU commissioner Mochammad Afifuddin explained that the security and escort personnel of each candidate amounted to 74 personnel who were members of 2 teams.

"Pamwal capres Anies Baswedan totals 74 personnel, 2 teams. Pamwal presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo totals 74 personnel, 2 teams. Pamwal presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto is 74 personnel, 2 teams. Pamwal Cawapres Muhaimin Iskandar is 74 personnel, 2 teams. Pamwal Cawapres Mahfud MD is 74 personnel, 2 teams. Pamwal Cawapres Gibran Rakabuming Raka is 74 personnel, 2 teams," said Afif.

Today, the KPU has determined three pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in 2024. The determination was made after the KPU held a plenary session. The KPU has completed document verification including receiving the results of the 3 candidate pairs of medical tests.

"A pair of presidential-vice presidential candidates Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka are declared eligible as a pair of presidential and vice presidential candidates participating in the 2024 election," said Idham.

The AMIN pair were promoted by the coalition of NasDem parties, PKB and PKS with a total seat of 167 seats in the DPR or 29.04 percent of valid votes in the 2019 election.

Ganjar-Mahfud is promoted by the PDI-P coalition, the United Development Party (PPP), the Indonesian Unity Party (Perindo), and the Hanura Party with a total valid vote of around 39.2 million or 28.06 percent.

Meanwhile, Prabowo-Gibran was promoted by the coalition of the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the Golkar Party (Golkar), the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party, the Crescent Star Party (PBB), the Indonesian People's Wave Party (Gelora), the Garuda Party of the Republic of Indonesia (Garuda), and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) with a total valid vote of 59.7 million or 42.67 percent.
