Deputy Regent of Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, Johanis Uly Kale, said the extreme poverty rate in the region had decreased by seven percent from 6,000 poor people. "The poverty rate in Sabu Raijua Regency has decreased by seven percent after the government intervened in empowerment programs to help residents who fall into the category of extreme poverty," said Johanis Uly Kale when contacted from Kupang, quoted from Antara, Monday, August 21. According to poverty data, after verification in 2021, the number of residents who fall into the category of extreme poverty in Sabu Raijua Regency will reach 6,000 people. According to him, since the government intervened through the empowerment program, the number of poor people in two years has decreased to seven percent. He said the interventions carried out by the government were like the distribution of social assistance to help low-income residents. According to him, in July 2023, the Sabu Raijua Regency Government distributed 100 tons of rice to be distributed for food needs for the poor. In addition, he said, the Sabu Raijua Regency Government received regional fiscal funds of Rp. 18 billion which was focused on the community's economic empowerment program so that people's economic income could become more adequate.

"In addition, there is also the distribution of direct cash assistance through the allocation of village funds so that efforts to overcome extreme poverty are carried out in collaboration with all parties in Sabu Raijua Regency," said Johanis Uly Kale.
