The Reason For The 2024 UMP Increase Is No More Than IDR 200 Thousand Complete With The Latest Wage List
YOGYAKARTA A number of provinces in Indonesia have set the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) which has increased. However, the increase itself is considered quite thin. Related to this, the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) explained that the reason for the increase in the 2024 UMP was no more than Rp. 200 thousand.
The reason for the slight increase in the 2024 UMP was revealed by the Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security Indah Anggoro Putri. He explained that the provisions of the UMP only apply to workers who have less than one year of office.
"We need to remember again that the minimum wage policy is only for workers with a working period of 1 year and under. Because this is for workers under one year, the increase is impossible up to IDR 1-2 million," said Indah during a virtual press conference, Tuesday, November 21.
He also said that the increase in the 2024 UMP aims to keep new workers from being trapped in the shadow of low wages and to avoid poverty. The increase in the UMP is also considered capable of maintaining the purchasing power of workers so that they can contribute to the economy.
Indah also said that as of 17.08 WIB, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, 28 provinces from 38 provinces had sent copies of the Governor's Decree regarding the determination of the 2024 UMP.
In addition, he also said that the nominal increase reached 7.5 percent or around Rp. 223,280, while the lowest increase was 1.25 percent or Rp. 35,750. However, the data is still temporary considering that there are still provinces that have not sent a copy of the Governor's Decree to the Ministry of Manpower. It is not certain which province sets the highest increase or the lowest.
A number of provinces have announced an increase in the UMP, but some have not announced an official increase. The following is a list of the latest 2024 UMPs.
