PLN Temanggung Asks The Public To Beware Of Fraud Claiming To Change Customer ID
TEMANGGUNG - The Customer Service Unit (ULP) of Perusahaan Listrik Negara Company (PT PLN) of Temanggung asks the public to be aware of fraudulent customer identity (ID) changes by persons acting on behalf of PT PLN by charging a fee.
"The modus operandi is to change the customer's ID to the residents. The unscrupulous people will take advantage of the residents' negligence and charge fees of around IDR 400,000," said PLN ULP Temanggung Manager Yusuf Hendro Baskoro in Temanggung, Central Java, Antara, Tuesday, April 4.
Based on the information he received, the first incident was reported to have occurred on March 30 2023 in Campursari Village, Bulu District which is included in the PLN ULP Parakan working area. Similar incidents were also reported through the PLN Mobile application that occurred in the work area of PLN ULP Temanggung.
All PLN services to customers are free of charge, both related to handling disturbances and other activities.
Yusuf said that his party sometimes collects data on customers. If there is a house move, the name on the meter customer ID is no longer the same as the homeowner.
"We will update this regularly. Such data collection is free of charge and we complete each officer's identity, uniform, and assignment letter," he said.
He explained that changing a customer ID when an individual or entity subscribes to electricity from PLN, the customer ID provided at the start of the meter installation will stick until the person concerned stops subscribing.
According to him, it cannot be replaced, unless the person concerned submits an unsubscription request, then submits a new installation, and will get a different customer ID than before.
"There are only two things that can be replaced when you become a PLN customer, namely name change which can occur due to the sale and purchase of assets (buildings and houses) and a change of address," said Yusuf.
To anticipate this, his party has informed the internal PLN ULP Temanggung group and broadcast via WhatsApp status. In addition, he also coordinated with sub-district heads and village heads in the PLN ULP Temanggung working area.
He said that his party had also reported the incident to the Temanggung Police and the police had also given their full attention and would take action against the person if there was a violation.
"Apart from paying electricity bills, other services from PLN are free of charge after becoming a customer, both related to interruption services, customer data collection, new installation, changing power and migration, apart from connection fees there are no fees whatsoever," he said.
If there is an individual acting on behalf of PLN, then the officer cannot show a letter of assignment and proof of identity, both regarding changes in customer ID and other modes, he asks the community to ignore his request.
He urged the public to report to the authorities or to PLN through the PLN call center (0293) 123 or through the PLN Mobile application which can be uploaded via the Play Store for Android phones and the Appstore for iPhone.

"We urge all PLN customers to be careful because people like this are rife and will take advantage of the negligence point. If there is a need for PLN services, you can ask PLN and not depend on people who are known to be experts in electricity matters. However, that does not mean they are included as part of the PLN officers," he said.
