BANGKA - Bangka Regent Mulkan said the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries immediately reviewed the silting of the fishing port estuary in Sungailiat which hindered the activities of fishing boats in and out in the area.
"This week the Director General at the KKP will see firsthand the condition of silting the fishing boat port," said Mulkan during a visit to the Acting Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel) in Pangkalpinang, Antara, Friday, May 12.
The Acting Governor of the Babel Islands, Suganda Pasaribu, has made a visit and seen firsthand the condition of the Muara Sungai Jelit Air Kantung Sungailiat channel, the main door for fishing boats in and out of Bangka Regency.
"The Governor of the Babel Islands has conveyed to the Director General of KKP and this week, the Director General of KKP will go to the field to see directly and provide solutions to the silting," he said.
According to him, the normalization of the flow of the Jelith River Estuary in Sungailiat Water, has become a problem and obstacle, especially for fishermen to go in and out of the mouth of the river while at sea.
"When fishermen want to go to sea, the water becomes small because of the silting, so this becomes a big crucial agenda and must be resolved immediately," he said.
He added that in dealing with the problem of silting this port, the Bangka Regency Government, the Babel Islands Provincial Government and the Director General of KKP will work together.
"Hopefully with the KKP visit later, the problem of silting the fishing boat port will be resolved immediately and fishermen will no longer have trouble going to sea or dismantling fish caught at the port," he said.
