Thousands Of Houses In Demak Flooded

DEMAK - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Demak Regency, Central Java, estimates that the number of houses affected by the flood following the broken river embankment will reach thousands of houses spread across five villages.

"The six villages are Sidorejo and Rejosari Villages, Karangawen District, Pilangwetan and Kebonagung Villages, Kebonagung District, and Kalianyar Wonosalam District," said Acting Head of BPBD Demak Regency M. Agus Nugroho Luhur P as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 6.

In addition to settlements and agricultural areas with an area of 275 hectares, the flood also affected six school buildings, one mosque, and the village office.

Meanwhile, the number of affected residents, he said, is certainly also thousands of people.

In fact, due to the flood that occurred since Monday (5/2) night at around 20.00 WIB, there were a number of residents who were forced to evacuate.

Some of them in Sidorejo Village took refuge in the local mosque as many as 62 people, while at the UPTD office there were 54 people.

Floods that occurred in Demak Regency, some of which were caused by broken embankments and river water that overflowed, following water sent from the upper area.

"If it rains in Demak Regency, of course it doesn't cause flooding," he said.

The river embankments that collapsed due to heavy rains in the upstream area so that the water debit increased, namely the right and left embankments in Dukuh Mangun, Rejosari Village, District

Karangawen.

Then the right embankment of the Cabean River in Ngemplik Hamlet, Sidorejo Village, and the Tuntang River embankment in Pilangwetan Village, Kebonagung District.

"We have coordinated with each sub-district head, in order to coordinate with each village who is more aware of the conditions in the field to prepare refugee camps and logistical needs," he said.

So far, he said, there are no problems regarding logistics, because every time it is needed it is immediately fulfilled. Including the volunteer team, both from BPBD, PMI, Basnas, as well as from various elements of society are also ready to be deployed.

"When the flood began to occur at night, they had also been deployed to flood-affected locations, so they could help ease the burden on the community and minimize the potential risks that occur," he said.

Repairs to the broken river embankment, he said, would certainly soon be handled by related parties, namely the Seluna River Basin Center (BBWS).

The impact of the Tuntang River embankment broke down in Pilangwetan Village, Kebonagung District, causing several houses to be damaged and eroded the local road so that it was badly damaged.
