Google Launches Reader Mode in Chrome for Dyslexics

JAKARTA - At the recent BETT 2023 education technology expo, Google announced a series of accessibility and collaboration updates for its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Google Workspace platform and browser.

One of them is Reader Mode for Chrome, launched specifically to help reading challenges like those with dyslexia experience, so they can view articles and text posts online.

This Reader Mode will take the main content of the site and put it in the sidebar to reduce clutter and distraction, just like Safari has.

Users will also be able to change the font of the text, its size, font spacing, color and background color, to find the most suitable combination.

In addition, Google Classroom will give educators the ability to add interactive questions to YouTube videos.

Where students can answer and get immediate feedback, giving teachers insight into how well they understand the course material. Google is also bringing AI designed to provide customized support for practice sets.

Google Docs, a popular tool for digital learning in the classroom, will soon gain support for timers, stopwatches, and voting chips.

For remote and hybrid lessons, two teachers can now also manage slides simultaneously on Meet and present lectures together.

Finally, Google plans to use AI to recognize the physical raising of a hand and digitally mark it to ensure that attendees can be seen and heard. This was quoted from Engadget, Thursday, March 30.
