JAKARTA - Towards the end of 2022, Meta will share a number of updates regarding the security system on Instagram regarding online threats such as hacking or spyware.

"Security is a very hostile space where we are constantly thinking about how our product, our policies and our enforcement could be abused," said Guy Rosen, Chief Information Security Officer and Nathaniel Gleicher, Head of Security Policy in the announcement.

Currently, Instagram has various features to protect users from various types of hacks such as ensuring you have a strong password and enabling two-factor authentication and Instagram Security Checkup.

Beyond that, Meta has finally rolled out a few new features designed to help keep accounts secure, and offer more support should they lose account access.

Meta created a new website Instagram.com/hacked to address hacked accounts. You just open the link in the browser.

After that, you'll be able to choose whether you think you've been hacked, forgot your password, lost access to two-factor authentication, or if your account has been disabled. From there, you can follow a series of steps to help you regain access to your account.

Earlier this year, Instagram piloted a Request Help From Friends feature, which lets your friends confirm your identity to help get your account back. Now this feature has been rolled out globally.

To prevent hacking, Instagram is rolling out new support such as deleting accounts that its automated systems find harmful, including accounts that impersonate other people, against our Community Guidelines.

Second, Meta is now testing alert delivery if an account suspected of impersonating someone asks to follow you.

"In the coming months, we'll also send you a warning if an account that may impersonate a business sends you a Direct Message (DM)," it added.

Finally, Instagram is now showing a blue verified badge for verified accounts in more places across Instagram. In addition to Profile, the blue badge is verified in Stories and DMs, and coming soon, Feed.
