Fury Is Overshadowed By Trauma Clashes With Usyk

JAKARTA Former heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis estimates Tyson Fury will be haunted by trauma when he undergoes a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk this weekend.

Fury and Usyk previously met in May 2024 to fight for the title of world heavyweight champion to be undisputed. Usyk won points in the duel to become the true world champion since Lewis in 1999.

In the first duel, Fury almost gave up in the ninth round. He took a hit and fell in the round so that the fight almost couldn't continue.

Fury was surprisingly able to last until the last round with the remains of his energy. However, Lewis thinks the round seems to have made a big impression on Fury, if not physically then mentally.

"There was only one person injured in the fight and it wasn't Oleksandr Usyk. It was Tyson Fury. So now Oleksandr Usyk knows he can injure Tyson Fury," Lewis was quoted as saying by Boxing Scene.

The second volume of the duel is no longer risking an indisputable heavyweight world title. The reason is, Usyk has removed the IBF belt because it does not carry out mandatory duels and prefers to clash again with Fury.

The IBF title is now in the hands of Daniel Dubois, a British fighter. Dubois then defended the title after successfully defeating Anthony Joshua in September 2024.

Lewis also hopes that Usyk and Fury's duel will continue to present the best performance as he used to rise from two knockout defeats when met Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman.

"Every heavyweight fight there is always a drama. This fight, because Tyson Fury lost last time, there will definitely be drama. He came to win," Lewis said.

Usyk is scheduled to enter the ring to guard his title against Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Both will take the WBA (Super), WBO, IBO, WBC, and The Ring belts.
