Without Promotion, Hayao Miyazaki Releases The Last Film, How Do You Live

JAKARTA - Hayao Miyazaki released his last film today, Friday, July 14. The film, titled How Do You Live, airs theatrically without promotional material from Studio Ghibli.

Launching The Independent, the title was inspired by a novel released in 1937 by Genzaburo Yoshino, but the story was made original by Miyazaki. The script is said to have tells the story of a man whose mother was killed in a fire.

Studio Ghibli did not release a trailer or advertisement for the film How Do You Live. This was confirmed by producer total Suzuki in an interview.

"As part of the company's operations, over the years Ghibli wanted people to come to watch the film we made. So we thought about it and did a lot different for that purpose," saidten Suzuki.

"But this time we think, 'Eh, we don't need that'. Doing the same thing over and over again, you'll feel tired. So we want something different," he said.

Suzuki compared the promotion of Miyazaki films that were different from the marketing of Hollywood films in general.

There is an American film that was released this summer at the same time. They have three trailers and released them one by one. If you guys watch all three, you know everything that happens in the movie. So how does the audience feel? " he continued again.

There are people, who after watching all the trailers, don't want to watch the film. So I want to do something different from that," said Suzuki.

In September 2013, Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement from film production due to his age, but he hopes to continue working on Studio Ghibli Museum. Since 1963, Miyazaki has worked on films and series including some under Studio Ghibli production.
