Yannie Sukarya's Mystical Experience While Filming The Movie Iblis Dalam Darah

JAKARTA - Filming in the interior of Mount Salak, the director of the horror movie Iblis Dalam Darah, Yannie Sukarya admits to having a mystical experience. In a quiet area, no one should be doing activities on the river at night.

But, while shooting at the river, Yannie saw a mother and child, in white clothes on the set. "It was nine o'clock in the evening, even if they're the villagers, what did they do on the river late at night? I asked the crew to ask them to step aside so they wouldn't be in the frame," Yannie said when met at Pal Merah, South Jakarta, Monday, March 13.

Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the mother and child were gone. "We all saw them, but suddenly they disappeared. Yes, I don't know where they went," she explained.

Previously, Michelle Joan was also surprised when the generator could not move at all to be brought up to the shooting location. "We want to pray together before shooting. Everything is ready but the generator can't go up. A villager tells us, to pray first. And it's true after we pray, the generator can run right away," said Michelle.

They are grateful that finally shooting smoothly. "We are in the mountain just for shooting. Because there are no other activities, the signal is difficult," she added.

Yannie said that since she was little she has loved watching horror movies, so she chose the same genre to make her debut as a director.

"Then maybe because there were also childhood experiences at my old house where there were lots of horror incidents. Usually, people just get tired of it, but I get excited," Yannie said.

Furthermore, Yannie also admitted that being a director was her dream since childhood. So, through the Iblis Dalam Darah, she can make her dreams come true.

“I want to be a director because I think it's a really exciting job. We can create our own world and give it to people to see. That was really exciting for me,” explained Yannie.

Even though she likes horror movies, that doesn't mean Yannie isn't afraid of mystical things, because she admits that she still feels that fear.

Nevertheless, Yannie also feels that it is this fear that can help her to make horror movies so that she can describe her fear to the audience and convey it through scenes.

“In my opinion, horror directors themselves must also have fear. So being able to describe their fear in the movie, it's precisely that fear that can help us (the director) how to do it, 'If I'm afraid with this, maybe people are also afraid as well'," she said.

Yannie also admitted that she was grateful to be able to get a good and solid team so that they could help her when working on her first film. However, Yannie also admitted that she faced difficulties such as unfriendly weather when directing “Iblis Dalam Darah”.

“On Mount Salak, it rains constantly. But because the movie scenes are mostly at night, it's safe anyway. If it's not constrained, it's filmed mostly at night," she continued.

Even though she has realized her dream, Yannie hopes that in the future she can be even better and make better work.
