In the Efforts of Suppressing Air Pollution, The House of Representatives Asks KLHK to Give Free Tree Seeds to Residents

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the House of Representatives (DPR) Daniel Johan, asked the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and companies to provide free tree seeds to residents to reduce air pollution in DKI Jakarta.

This is in line with President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) instructions requiring offices to plant trees to reduce air pollution in DKI Jakarta.

"The Ministry of Environment and Forestry's PR must of course increase the number of good tree seeds to be distributed free of charge to the public. Likewise with companies in the capital city to issue their CSR to fund the greening of cities," said Daniel in his statement, Thursday, August 31.

According to Daniel, Jokowi's orders are very appropriate and must be supported. However, he said, not only offices but also yards and buildings must also have trees that can absorb carbon.

"Including on main roads where it is possible to plant trees is also a very good thing to do," said Daniel.

"Of course we really support the President's call because it is good for the air, for environmental health, and will have a good impact on humans," he continued.

Daniel stated that the faction would push for an increase in the budget for reforestation.

He said that Commission IV of the DPR would hold a working meeting with the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya Bakar on the theme of handling environmental problems that have occurred recently. Including forest fires in several areas.

"Commission IV will hold a working meeting with the Minister of Environment and Forestry tomorrow on August 31 2023 and will focus on handling environmental problems that have become a concern in the last few weeks, especially the poor air quality in DKI and the problem of forest and land fires in various areas ,” he said.
