Candidate Names Still Being Discussed, Megawati Announces Vice President Candidate Ganjar September 2023

JAKARTA - PDI-P General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri will announce a candidate for vice president (cawapres) to accompany the candidate for president (candidate) of the PDI Perjuangan Ganjar Pranowo in September 2023. "So July-August 2023 months of brewing, maturation, then September 2023, of course this is the authority of the General Chairperson to later announce the vice presidential candidate," said PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 4. "So we are waiting for the right momentum," said Hasto. On that occasion, Hasto explained that in July and August 2023 he would be the best moment to find a candidate for vice president who would accompany Ganjar Pranowo. In searching for pairs of vice presidents, the PDI-P will consider the dwitunggal aspect with Ganjar's leadership and electoral.."So that the dual double leadership of Pak Ganjar with his representatives who will accompany him will certainly get the greatest support from the Indonesian people," said Hasto.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the elections that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of the nationally valid votes in the previous election of members of the DPR. Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. In addition, pairs of candidates can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
