Demonstration Workers Reject the Job Creation Law Carrying a Mouse Statue with a Tie, MH Thamrin Street Blocked
JAKARTA - A number of labor groups from various organizations held a demonstration with the main demands being the rejection of Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation to become Law.
Workers who are members of the Joint Labor Movement of the People (GEBRAK) and the Million Workers Action Alliance (AASB) blockaded MH Thamrin Street, Central Jakarta with their gathering point at the ILO building.
Currently, the leaders of the labor group are meeting with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to convey their demands, before holding speeches in the Horse Statue area.
At the location of the workers' mass oration, Medan Merdeka Barat Street in the direction of the Constitutional Court building and the State Palace was closed by a concrete barrier and barbed wire.
As a result of this demonstration, the traffic around MH Thamrin Street was stagnant. A number of officers from the police and the Department of Transportation also managed the flow of vehicles at the intersection.
In today's demonstration, the labor group brought flags and banners with attributes that read their rejection of the Job Creation Law.
